generation z

The generation of Americans who are post-generation y, this group is considered to include people born between 1996 - 2009.

Many members of generation z have had lifelong use of the World Wide Web, text messaging, IM, MP3 players, mobile phones, smartphones, You Tube, and even vidchat. The next generation is dubbed generation alpha.

  • Traditionalists are born between 1928 - 1945
  • Baby boomers are born between 1946 - 1964
  • Generation X are born between 1965 - 1980
  • Generation Y are born between 1981 - 1995
  • Generation Z are born between 1996 - 2009

  • Generation Beta will be born between 2025 - 2039

Historical perspective: This is the first generation to spend their entire adolescence with smartphones. Although "iGen" displays many positive characteristics such as lower alcohol use and more limited teen sexuality, the trends in their mental health and social skills are more concerning. MWBRL.

By 2019, 35% of GenZ members say they personally know at least one non-binary person who uses gender-neutral pronouns to "they" and "them." By comparison, 25% of millennials, 16% of GenXers, and 12% of baby boomers know someone who doesn't use "he" and "she."
