version

The specific release of a software or hardware product, usually designated by a number (as in v2.0 for example, to indicate the second version). If you see v2.5, the software may be a beta version that's been released for testing prior to v3.0.

Pro tip: There is a general consensus that programs aren't quite right until the third release.
