A play on the word backlash, a techlash describes the adverse reaction to big tech companies such as GAFA. It is a strong negative reaction against the largest technology companies, their employees or their products fueled by concerns about privacy on social media platforms.

Historical perspective: Coined by The Economist in 2018, a backlash is usually reserved for a political development but it can also refer to a social movement.
