The group of big tech companies, lumped together by the Europeans, who continually challenge privacy rights, intellectual property rights, and monopoly with a belief that competition undermines the pursuit of the common good.

It is an acronym seen in texting, online chat, instant messaging, e-mail, blogs, newsgroup postings, and social media.

Historical perspective: As of early 2020, Alphabet (parent company of Google), Apple, Facebook, Amazon, and including Microsoft made a combined $55.2 billion in net profits in the most recent quarter. The next five most valuable tech companies made roughly $45.5 billion in their four most recent quarters.
