passkey

A passkey replaces passwords for authenticating users on websites and digital apps. It is a digital credential that uses encryption and biometric verification for a secure login, such as a fingerprint or a face scan. Instead of typing a password, users authenticate by confirming their identity using their device's built-in security features.

Passkeys have several benefits over passwords including stronger security, better user experience, no need to memorize, cross-platform and cross device compatibility, and stronger encryption and privacy due to the fact that passkeys utilize public key cryptography. All you do is use your device's screen lock, biometrics, or a security key to create a passkey for a specific website or app, then when you try to sign in, you authenticate by using their device's screen lock or biometrics and the website or app verifiesyour identity using the passkey.
