An imageboard is a website that acts as an internet forum which operates mostly by posting images. Imageboards, similar to bulletin board systems, are used to discuss a variety of topics, however, the focus is directed away from text posts and is instead placed on picture posts.


Historical perspective: The first imageboards were created in Japan based on the textboard concept. Founded in 1996 by Shiba Masayuki, Ayashii World was the first Japanese imageboard.
