As a noun, a document is recorded information, usually saved as a file (for example, a letter or invoice saved as a Word document). On the World Wide Web, a document is any file that contains text, media, or hyperlinks that can be transferred from an HTTP server to a client program. As a verb, to document is to record or annotate something; it is the act of putting information into permanent form so it can be retrieved later. And, in computer-speak, documentation is the product information and help materials provided to customers or users. Electronic Document Management (EDM) deals with the management of electronically stored documents.
