client

The name for a computer that can request information, such as a Web page, from a server. It also performs tasks independently by using its own applications and programs. Your desktop computer or laptop is a client when it is remotely connected to a host. The software that makes this connection possible is a client, as is the browser used by a visitor to a Web site.
