Artificial Super Intelligence, a.k.a. Artificial Superintelligence

A hypothetical, software-based intelligence that vastly outperforms the cognitive capabilities of the best human minds across all fields, including creativity, science, and general reasoning. Here's the breakdown: 

  • ANI or Narrow AI: Systems designed to handle specific, isolated tasks (such as facial recognition or language translation). This is the level of technology active today.
  • AGI or Artificial General Intelligence: A theoretical system that matches human flexibility and comprehension across any general domain.
  • ASI or Artificial Super Intelligence: The next step beyond AGI, where the system continuously improves itself without human help, exceeding human potential by orders of magnitude.
Historical perspective: In September, 2026 the United States federal executive branch (Trump's White House) formally directed agencies to use the term "Super Intelligence" (SI) instead of "Artificial Intelligence" (AI) in official contexts via executive order. YYSSW.
