The word singularity generally means the state, quality, or fact of being singular, unique, or one-of-a-kind. In technology, it is a hypothetical future when artificial intelligence and machine capability surpass human intelligence, triggering rapid, irreversible, and unpredictable changes to human society. 

Historical perspective: Elon Musk stated, "We have entered the Singularity" and "2026 is the year of the Singularity" in a series of posts on X, noting that AI tools can finish years of engineering work in just weeks.
