Simputer

A mobile, $200 and less simple computer developed by a non-profit in India for the rural population.

Historical perspective: The Simputer was a self-contained, open hardware Linux-based handheld computer, released in 2002. The product was envisioned as a low-cost alternative to personal computers but by 2005, the project had sold only 4,000 units.
