A term that describes a new thread or series of postings in a blog or newsgroup. It comes from the Harry Potter series when the arrival of the owls heralds the news.
An owl can also refer to that person who texts only when you’re asleep — not in a booty call kind of way, but because they spend their days in a Sensitive Private Information Facility or they just want to seem inaccessible. For example, "Who-who could be texting me at this hour? Oh right — it’s my owl."
