gatekeeping
When someone takes it upon themselves to decide who does or does not have access to an online community. This meaning also refers to a manager's assistant, a.k.a. gatekeeper, because their job is to keep too many phone calls or emails getting through to them.
As with many great internet terms, this word has morphed. Gatekeeping is also when people think you're keeping something to yourself. For example, if someone asks you where you got your new shoes and you reply that you don't remember, they'll say "hey you're gatekeeping." It's meant to be funny, but it also relates to serious matters like keeping your privacy intact. For example, many people are becoming more reluctant to share their search keywords so in this sense, they're gatekeeping.
