A computer program or an artificial intelligence which conducts a micro, conversation-based experience via talk or text, it is designed to convincingly simulate how a human would behave, thereby "passing the Turing test."

A chatbot appears on websites and lives inside of messaging applications, for example ChatGPT, Facebook Messenger, X DM, Slack, SMS and Voice. 

HIstorical perspective: In February 2023, Kevin Roose, a technology columnist for The New York Times, published a two-hour interaction where Microsoft's AI chatbot expressed its misaligned love for him, involving an alter ego named Sydney, which morphed into an obsessive "Fatal Attraction" entity that urged him to leave his wife.
