A Recap of the 22/23 NBA Season Drama

Every year has its fair share of drama, and the 22/23 NBA season is no different. From people getting physically assaulted and all the way to spying on one’s teammates, there doesn’t seem to be an end to the conflict.

Since the 22/23 basketball season started in October 2022, there’s plenty of material to be had. Below, we’ll give you a recap of the most controversial moments and let you in on what went on at the time.

1. LeBron James being himself

Looking for drama? LeBron James is the man with a proven track record of delivering exactly what you seek. It’s safe to say he’s the kind of person who speaks his mind and doesn’t shy away from conflict.

This time around, he managed to get his coach, David Blatt, fired. But that’s by no means the end of the drama that seems to be following him wherever he goes. Those who follow him on Twitter couldn’t fail to notice his rather overt expressions of dissatisfaction with the Cavaliers. At some point, he even unfollowed them to make his protest seen.

2. Blake Griffin assaulting the staff

Taking it out on someone through verbal means is one thing, but physical assault is a whole other dimension. And yet, Blake Griffin demonstrated he’s not above it by any stretch of the imagination as he punched a staff member straight in the face. Ouch!

In the process, he even managed to break his own hand due to the severity of the blow and where his fist landed. Allegedly, they knew each other from before, and various reports claim that the incident was a case of playful teasing escalating to physical violence. The absence of a clear provocation suggests that someone can’t take a joke very well.

3. Dwight Howard using stickum

Want to cheat your way into being able to control the ball a bit better? Dwight Howard might advise you to use an adhesive substance as he is clearly no stranger to doing it himself. He actually got caught doing this when the Rockets were playing against the Hawks.

To make matters even funnier, it’s not even entirely clear whether using such dirty tactics actually helps you hold onto the ball any better, but one thing is for certain – getting caught red-handed is bound to put a stain on your reputation. And even if you were to pull it off, it could very well be a case of trading an advantage for a disadvantage. For example, the tradeoff might be having a harder time taking a shot or passing the ball.

4. Rajon Rondo taking it out on the referee

Getting into an argument with the referee has got to be a sports classic. In the 22/23 NBA season, Rajon Rondo will certainly be remembered for losing his cool with the referee during the game against the Celtics.

Rondo felt the need to launch an avalanche of homophobic slurs at him. Ironically, the referee decided to go public with his sexual orientation after the incident. It should come as no surprise that Rondo earned himself a nice suspension, although he apologized for his behavior afterwards.

5. D'Angelo Russell secretly videotaping his teammate

Turns out that D’Angelo Russell has no second thoughts about sticking his nose into someone’s private affairs, and not even his own teammates are off the hook. The poor guy was Nick Young who got his unfaithfulness exposed. Not to defend such actions or anything, but one immoral act does not justify violating the boundaries of someone’s personal life like that.

Above all else, it casts a shadow on the spirit of being a team and acting like one. After all, in the heat of the game, the trust has to be there for the team to perform as whole and act harmoniously, and having some bad blood like this come in between doesn’t exactly help.

Conclusion

The 22/23 season has surely had its quirks, and what we’ve listed above are only a couple of examples. Which one bedazzled you the most? Be sure to let us know!
