Inktomi Corporation

What began as a research project at U.C. Berkeley became the prototype for a commercial search engine that ultimately powered the search utility on a number of Web sites. Founded in February 1996 and headquartered in Foster City, California, Inktomi develops and markets network infrastructure applications for network service providers (NSPs) and for enterprises that are essential to network infrastructure, enabling network operators and end-users to publish, retrieve, manage, and distribute information easily. The company also specializes in content networking solutions, search solutions, and wireless solutions.
