discussion group
a.k.a. discussion forum
A group of people who exchange messages about topics of common interest. Often associated with the newsgroups, discussion groups can take the form of discussion boards, online forums, and e-mail lists. Dubbed as "online encounters with your own kind," discussion groups vary widely in topic and format.
