Craig's List

a.k.a. Craigslist, CraigsList

Started by Craig Newmark in San Francisco, in early 1995, Craig's List is a well-known online community and forum. It encourages people to post announcements in a variety of categories, such as housing wanted or available, things for sale, events, job postings, personal ads, and even stuff like, "I need a babysitter." It is a very down-to-earth approach in the sense that it's a place where users can give each other a break and get the word out when it comes to everyday, real-world stuff.

The mission of Craig's List is to retain the human voice to the Internet; it's about making the Net more personal and authentic, and about helping people accomplish some of the things they need to get done. Anyone who has used this Web site knows it is great. In fact, it has become the most effective job site in the San Francisco Bay Area. There are now Craig's Lists in hundreds of cities around the world, giving users a way to reach out to each other in their own communities.
