webcitations

When doing research or compiling information, this refers to the act of citing something as found on the Web. Authors increasingly cite Web pages in medical and scientific publications, but unfortunately these Web pages can disappear overnight. The problem of unstable "webcitations" is a serious concern in the publishing and legal industries because if journal articles, books, etc. are not archived, future readers may encounter a "404 File Not Found" error when clicking on a cited URL.
