Valley wash-out

A person who established a reputation in a Silicon Valley high-tech company but moved elsewhere and took a pay cut in order to have a more secure position and a shorter commute. This term is used derogatorily by those who remain in the Valley and say wash-outs are identified by their exaggerations of how much better it is where they are and how tough it is in the Valley. It also refers to the large number of dot-coms in Silicon Valley that failed.
