PC-compatible

a.k.a. clone
Originally coined as "IBM-compatible," this term is broadly used to apply to any personal computer. The reason it's "PC-compatible" now is that Microsoft developed an operating system, Windows, that took the best of both IBM and Mac computers and it became almost universally used on desktop computers. So, what's happened is that Mac still uses its own operating system, but IBM-PCs and most other PCs use Windows.
