organized coincidence
Coined by participants in San Francisco's Critical Mass bicycle protest movement, this is slang for an event that seems to occur spontaneously, but is actually the result of collective brainstorming --often done online. Individual responsibility for the event is thus avoided, but everyone can take credit for its success.
