LDAP

Lightweight Directory Access Protocol

(pronounced: L-dap)

A protocol for accessing online directory services, it was defined by the IETF since Directory Access Protocol (DAP) was seen as too heavy and complex for use by Internet clients. LDAP defines a relatively simple protocol for updating and searching directories running over TCP/IP.
