A role within the U.S. government leading "Cyber Command," a new Department of Defense group tasked with defending military networks from cyberattacks. Brushing aside suggestions that Cyber Command would militarize cyberspace, analysts say the "new" organization would focus on defense rather than offense.

Historical perspective: In 2010, former National Security Agency director Keith Alexander was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as Cyberchief.
