Conseil European pour la Recherche Nuclaire, or European Organization for Nuclear Research
Known globally as CERN, this is the birthplace of the World Wide Web. Founded in 1954, in Geneva, CERN is one of the world's largest scientific laboratories, the product of an international collaboration among its many member states. The laboratory is financed by 20 European countries; more than 7,000 scientists from laboratories and universities all over the globe study the constituents of matter and the nature of fundamental forces. imagemaps were once coded in a server-side format developed by CERN, but the format developed by the NCSA is more popular now.
