auto answer
A feature of e-mail, fax, or any type of communication program that allows a call to be answered or "picked up." There is either a light on the modem (if it's external) or an indicator on the GUI of the software that shows the auto answer feature is turned on. Most programs must be configured for auto answer to work correctly.
