AOL winsock

America Online Windows Socket

An oldie but a goody: This was an add-on to America Online for Windows," it allowed you to run Internet apps that normally require a direct Internet connection to work. Technically, it allowed an AOL connection to communicate with other systems using the IP protocol, the background language of the Internet. It was customized to work only with AOL and not another Internet Service Provider (ISP).
