Creating the appearance of movement with drawn objects, as in cartoons. Animation gives life to Web sites by displaying a variety of moving objects in your browser screen: images, words, and pictures, to name a few (although having too many animated images can be annoying). There are certain software programs that allow Web developers to create animated images, commonly known as animated GIFs.
