BHAG

Big Hairy Audacious Goal

(pronounced: B-hag)

An acronym used primarily in texting, online chat, instant messaging, e-mail, blogs, and newsgroup postings, it is also considered a form of online jargon or text message shorthand.

From the book Father, Son & Company by Thomas J. Watson Jr. & Peter Petre about IBM, a BHAG serves as a powerful mechanism to stimulate progress--a finish line to shoot for, a summit to reach, the business equivalent of the NASA moon mission. Quite simply, BHAGs are part of the American culture.
