forward slash

(usually just pronounced slash, you don't have to say forward when giving out a URL)

A symbol used on the net after the http part of a URL, as in, "The Web address for NetLingo is http://www.netlingo.com"

You will also see this symbol used as a pseudo-tag to indicate the beginning or end of a story within an e-mail message. For example, if a person starts to tell a business story or begins writing a stream-of-consciousness idea in a personal e-mail message, he or she may put /start at the top of the story and /end at the finish to set it off from the rest of the message.
